First off, I wouldn't recommend taking any despair from last week to heart, as it's traditionally an incredibly depressing week. Friday 16th October 1998 was the most depressing day of my life and a large number of my friends suffered short-lived meltdowns last week, as did I, solely because I had three episodes of Bus Fail in a couple of hours followed by a driver to refuse to take my ticket for no good reason. Quite. Obviously, I didn't much care about that, but it was impossible to cheer up again afterwards because I was (necessarily) estranged from my self, wasn't looking forward to anything, and had tons of doubt. So yeah: not to trivialise your problems, but Doom Week definitely has a tendency to bring them to the surface, and they probably won't seem so overwhelming in days to come.
Obviously, I can't really help with the family and career uncertainty. Your best bet would be to start seeing a man with a private jet, so you can travel AND visit your family a lot, and not have to worry too much about cash. Well, if geen-features in "Fifty Shades Of Poo" can find one, anyone can . . . he's a creepy barsteward, but you know, rough with the smooth!
Seriously, women don't (or shouldn't) try to turn into super-sirens. The only way I've ever attracted anyone is by hanging out with people with common interests and drinking a lot. (Actually, a rather handsome man on the street wearing a Joy Division shirt told me I was beautiful at 8pm last Friday, but that's London, full of weirdos!) So I'd advise that, especially if you can find somewhere with a substantial proportion of men (preferably geeky ones). There's also online dating, or checking out men's seduction forums (I like those at rsdnation.com) and taking cues from there. Of course, most of them are looking for dodginess rather than love, but it's a start.
As for making friends in new places, one doesn't necessarily need friends one's own age - people ten years older or younger are equally good company, and sometimes more readily available. Though of course, it depends where you go mind (don't go to Carlisle! :P)
